How to Be Fit In Your 50's and Beyond + Fabulous Workout Clothes

Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do…not a punishment for what you ate.

Prioritizing a regular exercise routine has never been more important than it is right now. It will boost not only boost your immune system, but your mood as well.  There is so much uncertainty in the world and it’s easy to get caught up in it and feel unable to function normally. Negativity saps us of our energy and causes worry and even depression. But the good news is…

EXERCISE IMPROVES OUR MENTAL HEALTH

We all need healthy daily rituals to move negativity out and physical exercise is one of the most important things we can do to avoid an energetic shutdown.

When we move, we’re lowering cortisol levels, which helps us respond to stress differently. Exercise also produces happy hormone (endorphins). 

MOVE EVERY DAY

You don’t have to have a full on sweat session every single day, but it’s important to move in some way everyday. Setting an intention to move…even if it’s just a walk around the block can can help you keep that commitment to yourself. You can make your workouts more enjoyable, especially if you’re running or walking, by listening to a podcast. Alternately, there are so many great workouts on YouTube. The more simple you make things, the easier it is to make them happen and stay motivated. By doing this, you are creating a new habit. Studies show that 30 days of daily repetition create new neural pathways and a new pattern in your life. Over time, your workout will become second nature.

Every day is another chance to get stronger, to eat better, to live healthier and be the best version of you. Understandably people have gained weight during quarantine, but it’s important to know that it’s temporary and every day is a new beginning and a chance to do things differently. Also, be mindful of negative self talk and thoughts. When you begin to move your body, you begin to see yourself as someone who exercises regularly and a huge shift occurs.

 I’ve learned that having a morning routine is something that helps me to accomplish all I need in the day. Exercise is a big part of that, and finding a workout that you really enjoy also helps to make exercise a priority. If you feel like exercise is a punishment, you’re much less likely to be consistent.

Much like meditation, exercise can be a spiritual practice. I have noticed that when I’m working out…at times, I’m completely consumed with what I’m doing with no other thought entering my mind. I’m super focused in the same way I try to be when I meditate.

When you wake up with a purposeful heart, set intentions and prioritize self-care, you are making a conscious choice to let go of anxious feelings that can disrupt your day. For me, it starts before I get out of the bed…I begin immediately to think of things I’m grateful for in my life and then set an intention for the day. Every day is different, but it always includes staying present in the moment. Exercise for me is a spiritual practice because I’m doing something good for my body and my mind.

You have the opportunity to change bad habits and reframe negativity through movement and meditation.

Whether you’re pressed for time, or just need a great way to start your day, lace up your sneakers and try this walking meditation (below). It will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to start your day! Alternately, you could find a parking lot and flip a tire…everyone is different! Having a cute outfit to work out in motivates me on the days that I don’t feel like exercising. I’m also one of those people who sometimes stays in those same clothes all day long because I’m so busy.

I believe in this company. Everyone I’ve met is so supportive and they really want to see you succeed. That’s why I’m sharing today. The other part, is that I REALLY LOVE THE CLOTHES.
